KEOGH 'U' TROUGH AUGERS

Being able to adapt to almost any situation and handle practically any product makes a 'U' TROUGH auger very versatile. With our standard sizes starting at 150 mm wide (6") and finishing at 400 mm wide (16") and with a multitude of depths and other configurations we can supply the right unit for your purpose.

The main feature of 'U' TROUGH augers is their ability to handle 100% loading of the product and this is due to the extra 'space' being available above the screw flite for the product to temporarily 'bubble up' into when required.

Another special feature with these units is the nearly endless possibilities of customizing both the trough design and flite configuration. Troughs can be either parallel side walls or acute side walls (meaning it's more of a 'V' than a 'U' shape). Flites can be standard continuous fliting, segmented fliting or a myriad of other types including ribbons and paddles.

As standard the trough is supplied in 2400 mm long sections (8') to allow for efficient utilization of the plate sheet lengths. Then the units are welded end to end in either 2 or 3 pieces (therefore making 4800 mm (16') or 7200 mm (24') lengths) which are then finished off with an end flange that commonly incorporates a bearing. Successive 'lengths' of these can be bolted together to produce the required trough length.

Lids, inlets, outlets, drive systems, gland packings and numerous other items can also be furbished onto the trough assemblies.

Troughs over 3000 mm long (10') generally require 'hanger bearings' to hold the flite free of the trough. This then lengthens the life of the trough by reducing wear. Hanger bearings are generally fitted at 3000 mm (10') centers and each end of the assembly fitted with quality bearings. Typical hanger bearing materials include :-

  • Brass with grease chambers (and optional time release greasers),
  • Ball bearing units (with optional time release greasers),
  • Ertalon plastic (an excellent material that requires no lubrication) and
  • The Rolls Royce of bearing materials, CERAMIC (expensive but they never wear out),

Typical users of these machine types include bulk grain storages, feed millers and those requiring fast and effective material conveying. They are especially suitable for silo roof installations, grain shed storages and reclaiming from rows of silo's.

Renowned (and expected) KEOGH heavy duty materials and construction are abundant in these units with standard issue of 3 mm trough, 3.5 mm flite and generously sized centre pipe and joiners. Options include heavier trough materials, heavier flite materials and different trough/flite materials. Customizing of the troughs or flite is relatively easy as the units are hand made.

Don't hesitate to call and ask about any 'U' TROUGH AUGER range. The greatest asset of these units is the ability to fully CUSTOMIZE the entire unit.
